BELGIUM: JS Heppignies (1944-2002) / RJS Heppignies-Lambusart-Fleurus (2002-2013)

Rue du Trou à la Vigne, Heppignies (formerly JS Heppignies / RJS Heppignies-Lambusart-Fleurus)

Belgium, province: Hainaut = Henegouwen

9 VI 2010 / RJS Heppignies-Lambusart-Fleurus - RFC Huy 2-4 / National League 4 - promotion play-off (= BE Level 4)

Note 1: Jeunesse Sportive (JS) Heppignies, founded in 1944 (matricule 4123) was a modest club in Hainaut's provincial league system until merging with RSC Lambusart-Fleurus (in itself a merger of RUS Fleurusienne and SC Lambusart, 1978) to become R Jeunesse Sportive Heppignies-Lambusart-Fleurus (often abbreviated to RJSHLF), retaining Lambusart-Fleurus' matricule 5192. RSC Lambusart-Fleurus had six consecutive seasons of National League 4 football behind them (1996-2002). In spite of Heppignies being the junior partner in the merger, first team football moved to its ground at Rue du Trou à la Vigne, which saw the construction of a smart, small covered stand in the following years. After four seasons in National League 4 (2002-04, 2005-07), the club even won promotion to the third level of the Belgian football pyramid, where it stayed for three seasons (2010-13). By that time, however, the village club turned out to have seriously overstretched itself, running into financial difficulties. The club's matricule was sold to Charleroi businessman Roberto Leone, who changed the name to R Charleroi-Fleurus and moved first team football to Stade de la Neuville in Montignies-sur-Sambre. Since, the ground in Heppignies has been left derelict. The horse riding school next door uses the pitch for its own purposes, whilst the local community occasionally organises open-air events in it.

Note 2: At the match attended by me at Rue du Trou à la Vigne, in 2010, RFC Huy won promotion to National League 3 (hence the celebrations in picture 11 below) - where they were eventually joined by RJSHLF as well.
